I was drawn to pursue a career in orthopedics as a physician assistant because of my background as an athletic trainer and my own personal experience with orthopedic injuries. Working closely with patients of all ages exposed me to the impact musculoskeletal injuries have on daily function, athletic and work performance, and mental well-being. Experiencing injury firsthand further deepened my understanding of the vulnerability patients feel and the trust they place in their healthcare team. To me, the patient experience means listening attentively, educating patients so they feel empowered in their care and providing compassionate, individualized treatment that allows patients to return to the activities that give their lives meaning.
