POA Staffing Updates

(Salisbury, MD) Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates (POA) announces the retirement of Dr. Eric Franks and Dr. Edward McGinnis. It is difficult, if not impossible to list the accomplishments of these exceptional orthopaedic surgeons who have served our local communities for over 21 years and 34 years, respectively.

Dr. Eric Franks joined POA in 1998 as one of POA’s Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeons alongside Dr. Thomas Brandon. Dr. Franks was instrumental in many sports medicine advances on the Eastern Shore, as he and Dr. Brandon performed the first cartilage replacement surgery in March 2000. Dr. Franks also had a passion for continuing education and was influential in creating educational programs instituted for both physician assistants as well as area athletic trainers at POA.

Dr. Brandon stated, “Dr. Franks was my first Sports Medicine Partner and had an immediate impact on me through his pursuit of knowledge and skills. He significantly contributed to the expansion of sports injury prevention and treatment of athletes and active individuals of all ages. Together we made many advances in arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery in the Delmarva region. I will forever be grateful for his contributions to the community and POA.”

Dr. Edward McGinnis joined POA in 1985 as the 7th physician of the practice. Dr. McGinnis has demonstrated commitment to orthopaedic research and education by holding positions as an instructor and administrative chief resident at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and as a board examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His commitment also extended to his work with his patients, as he helped them become active participants in their own prevention, rehabilitation and recovery. Dr. Brandon said, “There was no one smarter and more skilled, then Dr. McGinnis. He is truly one of a kind and will be missed as a partner, physician, and person.”

Although we are saddened by the retirement of two extraordinary individuals, POA is continuing to raise the bar of orthopaedic excellence with cutting edge clinical research trials, utilization of advanced technology and adding orthopaedic surgeons to elevate the level of care we provide. We are proud to announce the recent addition of Dr. Taylor J. Wiley, Orthopaedic Surgeon, on September 3, 2019. Dr. Wiley joins our Sports Medicine Team comprised of Dr. Thomas Brandon and Dr. Jason Scopp, after recently completing a fellowship in Sports Medicine from Brown University as well as an Orthopaedic Surgical Residency from University of Connecticut Health Center.
