Aging, injury, disease or post operative conditions
can limit your ability to move and perform normal activities.
Physical therapy is often an essential component of
recovery for patients suffering a wide variety of health
related conditions. Depending upon your specific needs,
physical therapy could be prescribed to increase range
of motion, reduce pain, restore function, prevent disability-or
satisfy a combination of these goals.
Plans are highly individualized. Your orthopaedic surgeonís
clinical evaluation will dictate the type of physical
therapy most likely to improve your condition. Therapy
can be used in conjunction with or in place of surgery.
Depending upon your condition, therapy may postpone
or eliminate the need for surgery. In either case, you
will play a major role in your recovery.
Common forms of physical therapy include: therapeutic
exercise; neuromuscular re-education; manual therapy
such as mobilization, manipulation, stretching; physical
and mechanical means such as ultrasound, electrical
stimulation and traction; and functional training in
self care and home management. Knowing how to augment
your physical therapy at home is a critical part of
most programs.
POA works with many physical therapists in the community.
Promoting positive partnerships between local therapists
and our patients is part of our commitment to your health
and recovery. Our office will work closely with you
and your insurance carrier to help connect you with
the therapist(s) offering the expertise and credentials
necessary for your condition. Your surgeon will discuss
your particular needs in detail, answer any questions
and guide you to the right physical therapist for your
needs.
