Imagine being in your 50s and having a job that kept you on your feet most of the day, every day. Well that was my life as an electrician, and I was having such severe pain in my hip that I could hardly walk. I had to take 10 to 15 Aleve a day just to try to ease the pain. I went to several doctors, but nothing seemed to help. That’s when I was referred to Dr. Petrera at POA and learned what I actually needed was a new hip.

Dr. Petrera explained he could perform an anterior hip replacement and it could be done at their same-day Outpatient Surgery Center. He walked me through how the process would go, which was exactly how it went. I arrived at 6:30 a.m., was in the OR by 8:00 a.m., out of the OR by 9:30 a.m., taking my first steps with a physical therapist (without any real pain) by 2:30 p.m. and was home before 4:30 p.m. Within four weeks, I was back to work and feeling like a new me. I was even back in my routine of walking 6 to 8 miles every day.

Dr. Petrera’s genuine concern for me, passion for his work and confidence and skill as a surgeon made all the difference in getting me back to my job and, more importantly, my life without pain.
